Airborne has a fully equipped and highly experienced engineering team. It uses state-of-the-art composite design tools and methods to design adequate, reliable and cost-efficient structures. The team consists of design engineers, structural engineers, material & process engineers, CAD designers and test engineers. There is a strong direct interaction with the production department, to ensure a swift and controlled transfer of the design into production. The engineers have a hands-on approach and are involved in constantly improving the running production programs.
The designs are defined in 3D-CAD (Pro/ENGINEER or CATIA), with a full composite laminate definition (FiberSIM), that is directly transferred into the cutting ply definition for the prepreg cutters, the LAP ply projection system and the CNC milling software. This ensures a fully traceable design-to-production route.
The structural engineers are experienced in using Finite Element Modelling to analyse problems where standard analytical calculations are insufficient. State-of-the-art software packages such as Patran/Nastran and Marc/Mentat are used, as well as in-house developed composite analysis tools.
Composite engineering services include:
- Concept and Detailed Design Engineering (incl 3D CAD)
- Structural design, (FEM) analysis and optimisation
- Qualification and Certification (testing & analysis)
- Manufacturing Engineering (process definition and optimisation)
