Airborne has extensive experience in composite components for marine applications, with prepreg, injection and winding technologies. There is a strong focus on thick walled, heavily loaded structures, and adhesive bonding specific for the marine environment is well-known.

 A special product line is composite propellers, both for commercial and naval ships. These propellers are produced using closed-mould injection technology (RTM) and the propeller diameter ranges from 600 mm to 2500 mm. For a naval minehunter, a composite propeller with adjustable pitch is developed and qualified. This propeller has a lower magnetic and noise signature than a conventional propeller with bronze blades, with at the same time a higher propulsion efficiency. The concept is currently under further development to optimise the flexible properties of the composite.
